Frequently Asked Questions for Participants (Students/Employees)

Thank you for your interest in the Canadian Campus Wellbeing Survey. We have compiled frequently asked questions from students below. Please contact us if you have any additional questions.

  • If your institution is participating, you may be selected to receive an email invitation. Please monitor your email account to see if you are selected to participate.

  • Your wellbeing has a significant effect on your post-secondary experience and it is a significant priority for your institution. Your responses will be used by your institution for quality improvement purposes. Your participation is important as it will provide crucial feedback to your institution about your experiences, and will help shape the programs, services and initiatives that support you and other students, or employees, to succeed at your institution and beyond. It will also allow us to compare students’ and/or employees’ experiences at your institution with the experiences of those attending or working at other post-secondary institutions. Your results may also be used for research purposes.

  • Yes, your responses are completely confidential. The survey does not collect any personal identifiers, and your individual responses will not be linked back to you.

  • The data collected will be used to generate reports and insights that help improve campus health and well-being services. Data may also be used for research purposes to understand broader trends in student health.

  • The survey typically takes about 15-20 minutes to complete.

  • Yes, you can skip any questions you do not wish to answer. Your participation is voluntary, and you are free to respond only to the questions you are comfortable with.

  • No, your responses will not affect your standing at the institution. The survey is designed to gather general information to improve campus services and is not linked to your academic or personal records.

  • Yes, you can choose to withdraw from the survey at any time without any penalty. Please use the link in the invitation email to request that your data be withdrawn. Please note that you only have the option to withdraw your data before your institution’s survey closes. After that the data are de-identified and combined and stored with de-identified results from other Canadian institutions in the data registry. After de-identification, there is no way to identify your responses to remove them from the database.

  • Some institutions may offer incentives for completing the survey, such as gift cards or entry into a prize draw. Please check your invitation email for specific details about incentives at your institution.

  • Summary reports and key findings from the survey may be shared with the campus community through emails, newsletters, and campus websites. Keep an eye out for updates from your institution.

  • Yes, a sample copy of the survey questions is available on the CCWS website for your review before you begin.

  • If you have any questions about the survey content or purpose, you can contact survey@ccws-becc.ca.

  • The survey link is unique to each invited participant to ensure data integrity. Please do not share your survey link with others. Encourage them to look for their own invitation email if they are eligible to participate.

  • The survey covers a wide range of topics related to student health and well-being, including mental health, physical health, lifestyle behaviours, and campus environment.

  • You can contact your institutional survey administrator who signs off on the email invitation to remove yourself from the mailing list. You can also unsubscribe from the invitation email (if this option is available in the email).

  • Yes. Using the same survey link in your email, you are able to return to, and complete the survey, at a later time, as long as you do so before the survey close date. Responses in progress are recorded as partial responses when the survey closes, and are included in the data.

  • No. Unique URLs are used to invite students to participate. The CCWS does not collect any personal identifiers (name, emails, student IDs). After your data is submitted it will be de-identified (unique URL removed) and added to a research database. Results of the survey will be reported in aggregated form only, without identifying individual students. No part of your response to the survey will become part of your student record.

  • Yes, if you were invited to participate in the survey, your institution wants to hear from you! Your institution is interested in knowing more about how they can support students’ wellbeing, including students who are not physically on campus.

  • Both the CCWS team and your institution will be able to access your de-identified data. However, at no point can your responses be linked to you by the CCWS team or your institution. Your data may also be made available to researchers or third-party organizations for research-related purposes. Individual student, employee, and institutional data are de-identified before being shared to protect confidentiality.
